This third webinar titled, Entrepreneurship Policy Post COVID, will feature Carmen Feliz-Taveras, VP, Entrepreneur Selection and Growth, Endeavor and Wonjoon Kim, Head of Graduate School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). The session will be moderated by Denis Medvedev, Practice Manager, FCI Global, and will discuss the changes to the entrepreneurial landscape as well as challenges related to designing entrepreneurship policies post-pandemic.

ABOUT THE WEBINAR SERIES

To gain a greater understanding of how challenges are redefining the role of innovation policy, not only in developed economies but also in middle and low-income economies, the FCI EAP Seoul Center for Finance and Innovation and the Firms, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Unit are organizing the Innovation Policy in the Post-COVID World Webinar Series. The objective of this series is to share knowledge that can help policymakers, practitioners, WB teams, and experts in developing economies navigate, design, and adapt innovation policies post-pandemic. The series features experts and researchers to discuss topics such as digital adoption among SMEs, entrepreneurship policy, green tech adoption, mission-oriented innovation policy, public procurement for innovation, among other related topics.

Entrepreneurship Policy post COVID

Entrepreneurial activity is an important pillar of economic growth, driving job and value creation and stimulating innovation. Entrepreneurs, investors, and governments have reacted to the pandemic differently and with varying degrees of effectiveness; few markets and sectors flourished while others suffered tremendously. This webinar will discuss the challenges of designing and implementing entrepreneurship policy post pandemic. Some of the questions to be addressed: Have there been structural changes in the entrepreneurial landscape due to the pandemic? What are the observations from developed and emerging economies? What is the [changing] role of public policy in supporting entrepreneurial ecosystem development? What has been the experience in supporting scale up entrepreneurship in emerging market entrepreneurship ecosystems, South Korea and globally? The presenters will share views and observations about key policy issues and responses from different markets with an attempt to draw lessons for emerging economies.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
 

Carmen Feliz-Taveras is the Vice President of Endeavor's Entrepreneur Selection and Growth (ESG) team. In this role, she leads a team across New York and San Francisco which oversees the selection and services of Endeavor's global portfolio of entrepreneurs across 8 different industry verticals and nearly 40 markets. Since joining Endeavor in 2013, Carmen has been head of two regional portfolios (the Middle East and Latin America/Europe), as well as the Retail & Consumer Tech industry portfolio globally; led Access to Talent partnerships and services for Endeavor Entrepreneurs worldwide; and played an active role in Endeavor’s expansion efforts into new markets. She was selected to be an Endeavor Fellow in 2016, and to attend Endeavor’s Innovation & Growth program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business (2015), Scaling Entrepreneurial Ventures program at Harvard Business School (2017), and Scaling Leadership at Insead (2019). 
 

Wonjoon Kim is the Head of the Graduate School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, a Professor at the School of Business and Technology Management, KAIST. He is also the Director of KAIST Center for Innovation Strategy and Policy and the Director of KAIST Center for Overseas Development. Dr. Kim has been conducting and publishing numerous research on the strategic management of innovation of firms, industry, and governments centering on emerging innovation paradigms. His current research interest also covers the changing nature of innovation, including AI and industrial and social change, convergence of technology and industry, mobility innovation, big data as well as the changing nature of the process of entrepreneurship. His recent publications include, When Does Entrepreneurial Failure Help the Next Tech-Based Start-Up? and Who are the most effective R&D partners for different types of product innovation? Evidence
from South Korean manufacturing firms. 
 

Denis Medvedev is a Practice Manager of Firms, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation unit of the Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation Global Practice at the World Bank Group. Denis’ own research has recently focused on firm growth and productivity, while his earlier work explored economic growth, income distribution dynamics, international trade, and the Sustainable Development Goals. In his previous assignments at the World Bank, he was responsible for policy dialogue, lending operations, and analytical work across a range of countries in Africa, East and South Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America & the Caribbean, as well as developing forward-looking scenarios for the global economy in the Development Prospects group. Dr. Medvedev is an author of more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles, books and book chapters, and World Bank reports. He holds a Ph.D. from the American University.
